OnePlus 2 gets OxygenOS 3.5.5 update VoLTE support but still Marshmallow

While the OnePlus 3 and 3T are apparently set to receive their updates to Android 7.0 Nougat before this year is over, the same probably can't be said for the OnePlus 2. Last year's flagship from the Chinese upstart may taste Nougat itself, but the day when that happens isn't today.

Instead, owners of the OnePlus 2 will be getting a new update based on Marshmallow, namely OxygenOS 3.5.5. This has started rolling out incrementally, which means the over-the-air update will reach a small number of phones today, and a broader release will follow in the next few days.

The new software version comes with the December security fixes, VoLTE functionality enabled for some carriers, App Lock, Battery Saving Mode, Gaming Mode, additional options for the Alert Slider, a new design for the volume adjustment bar, Shelf optimizations, increased system stability, and the usual unnamed "general bug fixes".

This also introduces the new OxygenOS UI to the OnePlus 2, along with an updated UI for the Clock app. Google's Clock, Calculator, and Messages will be replaced by stock OnePlus apps if you've never updated them. If you like Google's versions better, you can always download them from the Play Store afterwards.

OnePlus notes that many of the phone settings will be reset to default after the update - the device name, ringtones, accent colors, and status bar battery indication.

This update to OxygenOS 3.5.5 brings VoLTE support for some carriers (although we’re not yet sure which ones those are), App Lock, Battery Saving Mode and Gaming Mode, some minor refreshes to the OxygenOS UI across the system and in some apps, bug fixes, and more.

Before you go ahead with this update, there are some things you should know. OnePlus notes that your Google Clock, Calculator, and Messages will be replaced with OnePlus apps if you never updated them — although you can of course download them from the Play Store if you want afterward. OnePlus also notes that a lot of settings will be reset to default after this update.

As is usual with OnePlus updates, this is going to be an incremental OTA, meaning your device might not be seeing the update as available quite yet. If you haven’t gotten it yet, though, you should be notified about the update at some point over the next few days.

HTC is in works to unveil a new mid-range smartphone in January next year, which is said to replace the HTC One X9. Bearing the HTC One X10 name, HTC's new device will ape a lot of specifications from its predecessor One X9. A report suggests that the HTC One X10 will purportedly cost around CNY 2,000 (nearly $288) and will initially be launched in China. In the meanwhile, rumours about HTC's next flagship smartphone - thought to be called the HTC 11 - has also hit the Internet.

According to a report by MyDrivers, the HTC One X10 will bear specifications very similar to a mid-range smartphone. It is said to sport a 5.5-inch full-HD (1080x1920) display, a 2GHz octa-core MediaTek Helio P10 processor (Cortex-A53 cores), and 3GB of RAM. For graphics, the smartphone is said to pack a Mali-T860 GPU clocked at 700MHz. The smartphone is also said to sport a 13-megapixel rear camera with OIS. The rumoured specifications go in line with HTC One X9 that was launched on the New Year's Day this year.

In recent days, HTc has also unveiled the bolt model which is a sprint exclusive and an altered version of the HTC 10. According to recent stats, the phone hasn’t made a grand impression on customers, not yet at least.

The company continues to deny rumors it plans to sell its mobile division, saying it is working on new models. Today a new piece of information has popped into the rumor mill. It seems HTC is not only focusing on working on its next-gen flagship, but also has plans for a middle-range device.

According to information coming out of Chinese website My Drivers, the HTC One X9 will soon be replaced by the HTC X10. The phone is said to arrive with a 5.5-inch display with 1080 x 1920 pixel resolution.

The upcoming X10 will tap into the power of a MediaTek Helio P10 SoC clocked at 2GHz and working in combination with 3GB of RAM and unknown storage (hopefully 32GB). We’re also told the phone might feature a main 13MP camera. It’s not sure yet, but the phone should make it out with Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box. Expect it to cost approximately $288 and to be unveiled next month.

As for the company’s next premium phone, the HTC 11 is rumored to come boasting a 5.5-inch display with 1440 x 2560 pixel resolution and a brand new Snapdragon 835 chipset. The HTC 11 might be among the first to arrive with 8GB of RAM, to be offered in combination with a hefty 256GB of internal storage.

Other specs include a dual camera setup featuring 12MP sensors plus an 8MP front facing camera, a 3,700 mAh battery and Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box.
